This is the newest direction for my work. First I weave sheets of fabric from rose and yellow 14/20 gold fill wire or silver wire using a medieval fingerweaving technique. Then I cut this fabric into smaller pieces to embed behind glass I've fused into an aster, or daisy shape. The result is simply stunning. The fused glass both magnifies the weave, giving it more definition, and collects the light, making the entire piece glisten. This effect is especially pronounced with the silver pieces when the get out into the sunshine. The clarity of the piece reads as if it were a large diamond - and who doesn't like the illusion of a large diamond hanging from their ears?
I’m still trying to find the right words to describe this new direction – somehow I just can’t get more precise than “Sparkly! Pretty! Wow!”
The earwires are nickel free, and are the new no-slip variety. These earwires actually have little "speed-bumps" on the back to help prevent them from slipping back out of the ear. I have sensitive ears myself, and can wear these with no problem.
